The City of Lincoln, the capital city of the U. S. State of Nebraska, is the county seat of the Lancaster County. Lincoln was established in 1856 as a small village of Lancaster. After Nebraska was admitted to the Union on March 1, 1867, Lancaster was renamed Lincoln and was made the state capital. Today, Lincoln is home to the University of Nebraska, many Nebraska state agencies and offices, as well as a number of United States Government offices. The main neighborhoods of the city include Arnold Heights, Belmont, College View, Downtown, Hartley, and Hay Market, University Place, North Bottoms, South Bottoms, and Irvingdale.
Lincoln is best known for its extensive park system, which comprises of more than 100 individual parks. The largest and the most frequented parks in the city include the Woods Park, the Oak Lake Park, the Wilderness Park, Tierra Park, Holmes Park, and the Antelope Park. The Antelope Park is home to the famous Sunken Gardens and the Lincoln Children’s Zoo. All these parks are interconnected by 159 km (99 miles) of recreational trails. The scenic Mo Pac Trail runs through Lincoln. The major tourist attractions in the city include the Alice Abel Arboretum, Lincoln’s Children Museum, and the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia Museum, Museum of Nebraska History, the Historic Haymarket, the Maxwell Arboretum, Joshua C. Turner Arboretum, and the Hyde Observatory.
The University of Nebraska is home to several places of tourist interest, including the University of Nebraska State Museum, the Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery, the Great Plains Art Museum, Lied Center for Performing Arts, and the International Quilt Study Center. The Pershing Auditorium is a primary venue for live music in Lincoln. Downtown, on the other hand, is the primary bar and nightclub district in the city. The City of Lincoln is also home to the Nebraska State Capitol, the seat of the Nebraska Legislature. Lincoln has a lot to offer to both, residents and visitors. It is rich in history, nature, and culture, and is a place worth visiting.
