Nebraska City

Nebraska City, situated in the Otoe County, Nebraska, is a prime tourist destination in the state. It is the official home of Arbor Day, a three day event celebrated throughout the community as a national tree-planting holiday. This event is held every year on the last weekend of April. Another annual event hosted by the city is Apple Jack, which features various kids’ activities, a strongman contest, a parade, a 5K run, and crafts shows. The city is also home to the Missouri River Basin-Lewis and Clark Center and the famous Mayhew Cabin. The former emphasizes on the natural history achievements of the expedition.

The Arbor Lodge State Historical Park and Arboretum, established by J. Sterling Morton, is a magnificent, 52-room neocolonial mansion, encompassing an area of nearly 72 acres (30 hectares). The Park attracts thousands of visitors annually to Nebraska City. Other places of tourist interest in the city include the Arbor Day Farm Tree Adventure, the Lied Lodge & Conference Center; Arbor links Golf Club, Nebraska City Museum of Firefighting, the Civil War Veterans Museum at G. A. R. Hall, and Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts, the River Country Nature Museum, and the Steamboat Trace Trail. There are many other museums and attractions in the city.

The main recreational activities in Nebraska City include hiking, walking, and playing golf. The 2 major golf courses in the city include the 9-hole Wildwood Golf course and the 18-hole Table Creek Golf Course. The City is also well known for its 300 acres (1.2 sq. km.) of beautiful parks and its historic trolley tours on the Lewis and Clark Express. Nebraska City is rich in culture, history, heritage, and scenic beauty, and is well-worth visiting.
