North Platte, situated in the southwestern part of the state of Nebraska, is the county seat of the Lincoln County. It is a railroad town and home to the large Bailey Yard of the Union Pacific Railroad. This Yard is the largest rail yard in the world. During the World War II, the city was well known for the North Platte Canteen, which served nearly 6.5 million service personnel until April 1, 1946. During the 1930s, North Platte was infamously known as “Little Chicago”, owing to high crime rates and corruption in the city.

The main tourist attractions in the city include the Lincoln County Historical Museum and the Buffalo Bill Ranch State Historical Park. The former features an impressive display illustrating the history of the North Platte World War II Canteen. It also houses a Prairie Village with local landmark homes, a pioneer church, and a Pony Express Station. The Buffalo Bill Ranch, on the other hand, is a living history park, dedicated to Buffalo Bill Cody. The Park features Cody’s actual house known as the Scout’s Rest Ranch. Other places of tourist attraction in the city include the Cody Park Railroad Museum, 20th Century Veteran’s Memorial, the Wild West Arena, Wild West Memorial, Children’s Museum, and Fort McPherson National Cemetery. The city of North Platte has a lot to visit, and it attracts thousands of tourists every year.
