Boulder City & Hoover Dam
Boulder city, a small town in Nevada located 20 miles (32 Kilometers) from Las Vegas, was built by the Federal government in the 1930’s to accommodate a large number of men, women and their families working on the historic Hoover Dam project. What comes as an interesting bit of news is that gambling, the chief attraction in all other parts of Nevada stands prohibited here. In spite of it being a small town sans the glitter, Boulder city has some major attractions that draw hordes of tourists throughout the year. Boulder City's Historic District reflects the charisma of old America in its acclaimed structures erected during the construction of Hoover Dam. Another popular tourist center is the Boulder City/Hoover Dam Museum that transports visitors to the period when the majestic Hoover Dam was being built and throws lights on the hard work and effort that went into the construction of this massive engineering marvel packed with complex design. It also reflects the great sacrifices made by the workers and their families who lived here in isolation and in extreme climatic conditions to achieve the task at hand. Hoover Dam, the heart and soul of Boulder City, is a gigantic and enormous dam on the massive Colorado River and is counted among the seven man made wonders of the world. Earlier called as the Boulder Dam, this structure was built in 1935 after four years of dedicated effort, and renamed as a tribute to Herbert Hoover, America's 31st president, who played a major role in settling the water dispute of the surrounding regions and making the dam a reality. Hoover Dam resulted in the formation of Lake Mead, the largest man-made lake and another wonderful location of tourist interest. Visit Boulder City / Hoover Dam not only to witness the historical structure and its background but to experience the perseverance and dedication of a group of people in creating a marvel. Websites
