The famous C Street is Virginia City’s main street and is well known for its antique stores, saloons, other shops, restaurants, and a popular ice cream shop. This Street dates back to the 1870s and it attracts thousands of visitors every year including day trippers who come here for gambling. However, it is only history that makes this magnificent city and its C Street so fascinating.
The C Street is an entire museum that has a number of authentic buildings along the main and the side streets. These ancient buildings reflect the beautiful Victorian architecture of the 19th century and the interesting history behind them. The main historic buildings along the Street include the Piper’s Opera House, the Knights of Pythias Hall, the Miner’s Union Hall, and the old Presbyterian Church. Several attractions below C Street include St. Mary’s Hospital, St. Mary’s Art Center, and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on the E and F Streets. Besides, there are a number of popular museums like the Fourth Ward School and The Way It Was Museum along the C Street.
The walking tour guide is made available to the tourists at the Visitor Center on the C Street. The best time for a walking tour is either before 10 am or after 6 pm. There are a number of shops, restaurants, saloons, historic hotels, and motels along the Street. The most impressive thing about the C Street is that it is well kept and wonderfully preserved in its authentic state even after 150 years. The wooden floorboards of the sidewalks are still intact!
