The Lehman Caves cavern is situated in the Great Basin National Park, Nevada. It lies behind a huge iron door that is set very close to the Visitor Center. It is well known for its underground features that attract tourists from all over the world. The beautiful Spaeleotherms in the Lehman Caves are the most attractive feature of the cavern. Besides, there is a large variety of unique and delicate limestone formations such as the ‘shields’. ‘Shields’ are large, rare shell-like structures formed in the Lehman Caves.
The Lehman Caves cavern is a part of a ranger-guided tour that costs $8 per person for 60 minutes or $10 for 90 minutes. The passages in the Cave are only faintly-lit. Features of special interest in the cave are illuminated by the guide with the help of a torch. During some tours, all lights are turned off to help people experience the complete darkness of the Cavern. The caves are relatively cooler than outside in summer. The underground temperature remains 50°F (10°C) throughout the year.
