Virginia City is situated in the Storey County, Nevada but is not incorporated. It is one of the oldest cities in Nevada and was established during the booming days of mining. After the Comstock Lode silver strike of 1859, Virginia City became one of the most popular boomtowns in the Old West. Virginia City is popular not only because it is the place where writer Samuel Clemens first used his famous pen name, ‘Mark Twain’ but also because it was this city that had the first elevator between Chicago and California. At present, Virginia City is designated a National Historic Landmark and attracts nearly 2 million visitors annually.
This city has a lot to offer to its visitors. The old-fashioned gun show is a major tourist attraction in this city. Other tourist activities include shopping, sight seeing, enjoying a carriage ride through the town, and visiting the ancient cemetery. There are 9 such cemeteries to the north of the town. This short line is still in the process of restoration.
Besides, there are a number of museums in the city. A unique collection of dicey artifacts is displayed at the famous Gambling Museum. Another famous museum is the Fourth Ward School.
