Wladziu Valentino Liberace (May 16, 1919 - Feb 4, 1987) popularly known as “Lee” or “Liberace” was the ultimate American entertainer of his period, capturing hearts of millions across the nation. Born to a French father and a Polish mother in West Allis, Wisconsin, Liberace was musically inclined like the rest of his family and made outstanding contributions to art through his music, films and television shows.
The renowned Liberace Museum is a tribute to this legendary and exuberant showman. Performances of Liberace were known for being filled with fantastic music, dazzling color, sparkling costumes and wit and on display is a collection wherein every piece was once used by Liberace and brings back memories of days gone by.
The museum is divided into two areas of visit. Rare and antique pianos including Liberace's much loved Concert Grand Piano coated with glittering mirror squares and his classic cars are housed in Building One. The exotic car collection that was used by Liberace during his shows is a much loved area of visit and includes the popular "Stars and Stripes," Rolls-Royce convertible, which is painted in red, white and blue.
The costume and jewelry collections that include bejeweled costumes, stunning stage jewelry are put up in Building Two. The visit to the costumes section will not have a single dull moment as the sheer glitz and glamour of the assortment will transport you to a different world. Also housed here is a recreated bedroom of Liberace’s Palm Springs residence and an awards gallery.
Liberace's lives on through the various charities supported by the museum including The Liberace Foundation for the Performing and Creative Arts that aids artists through scholarship grants since 1976.
Liberace Museum is a much recommended visit for anyone who has enjoyed any of his recorded performances and would have loved to see him perform live; as this is the closest you can get to this star.
