The Mirage, situated on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada, is a hotel and casino resort owned and managed by MGM Mirage. This 3,044 room hotel is linked to Treasure Island by free tram service. The marquee that stands in front of The Mirage is the world’s largest free standing marquee. The Mirage is known to be the most expensive hotel in history.
Established by Steve Wynn in November 1989, The Mirage was the first resort to be built through the use of junk bonds. The major attractions at the resort include the Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat; a 53-foot (16-m) long aquarium behind the registration desk, featuring over 1000 specimens; and an atrium at the hotel entrance, featuring a number of water features, palm trees, and other rainforest fauna.
The Resort premises also feature an artificial volcano along the Las Vegas Strip. This spectacular volcano erupts periodically during the evening. LOVE, a Cirque de Soleil theatrical production, is also featured at the hotel.
