The Las Vegas Strip, commonly known as ‘The Strip’, is a 4 mile (6.4 km) section of Las Vegas Boulevard South in Paradise and Winchester, Nevada. The Strip has also been referred to as an All-American Road. 18 of the 25 world’s largest hotels are located on The Strip. Besides, many of the largest casino and resort properties are also situated in this region. Also known as the Arrowhead Highway, Los Angeles Highway, U. S. Highway 91, and the Salt Lake Highway, the Strip was named by Los Angeles police officer Guy McAfee, after his hometown's Sunset Strip.
The Las Vegas Monorail runs on the eastern side of The Strip, from the Tropicana Avenue to Sahara Road. The double-decker buses, popularly known as The Deuce, provide services on the Strip and stops at most of the major resorts. In addition, a tourist trolley service operates up and down The Strip and stops at the Fashion Show Mall and almost all the major hotels. One of the two free cable-pulled trams offers service to Luxor, Mandalay Bay, and Excalibur, while the other runs between The Mirage and Treasure Island.
Some of the major hotels and Casinos on the Strip include the Echelon Place, Circus Circus, Hilton Grand Vacations Club, Riviera, Wynn Las Vegas, Treasure Island, The Palazzo, The Mirage, Caesars Palace, Flemingo, Imperial Palace, and MGM Grand. The Strip is also considered to be a shoppers’ paradise. The main on-Strip shopping attractions include the Miracle Mile, Bonanza Gift Store, Fashion Show Mall, Grand Canal Shoppe, and the Forum Shops at Caesars. The most popular shows playing on the Strip include the Sirens of Ti show at Treasure Island Hotel and Casino; the Conservatory at Bellagio; the White Tiger Habitat at The Mirage; five Cirque du Soleil shows; and some imported Broadway shows.
