The Albuquerque BioPark is situated at the New York and Central Avenues, east of the Central Bridge in the City of Albuquerque, New Mexico. This environmental museum is located in the historical neighborhood of ‘Barelas’. The Bio Park aims at providing the public with challenging and exciting recreational activities and promoting education, stewardship, and environmental awareness. The Biological Park has 4 major attractions: the Rio Grande Botanical Garden, the Tingley Beach, the Albuquerque Aquarium, and the Rio Grande Zoo. These facilities are connected by a 36’’ (91 cm) narrow gauge railroad.

The Tingley Beach features a model boating lake, 3 fishing lakes, a train station, an elegant gift shop, picnic areas, and food service. Pedal boats and bicycles are made available on rent to the visitors during the summer season. The main exhibits in the Albuquerque Aquarium describe the exotic Rio Grande River from Albuquerque to its mouth in the Gulf of Mexico. The major attraction in the Aquarium is a 285,000 gallon ocean tank with colorful fish, sharks, and sea turtles. These Gulf of Mexico saltwater species belong to the ocean, coral reefs, estuaries, shallow waters, and the surf zone. Other highlights in the Aquarium include seahorses, eel tunnel, and luminous jellyfish.

The wonderful Rio Grande/Albuquerque Botanical Garden encompasses an area of over 20 acres (0.08 sq-km) and is bordered by the spectacular Rio Grande River. The major attractions here include a 10,000 sq-ft (929 square meters) glass conservatory and the famous Butterfly Pavillion. The glass conservatory houses a number of exotic and native plants from the Mediterranean and desert climate zones. The 64 acre (0.26 sq-km) Rio Grande Zoo is home to over 250 species of native and exotic animals. The most common species found here include elephants, camels, snow leopards, tigers, lions, gorillas, chimpanzees, seals, zebras, giraffes, white rhinos, hyenas, African wild dogs, eagles, storks, roadrunners, polar bears, Koalas, Mexican wolves, monkeys, orangutans, hippos, and sea lions. The Albuquerque Biological Park has a lot to offer and is a great learning experience, especially for kids.
