indian pueblo cultural center

The Indian Pueblo Cultural Center, situated in Albuquerque, New Mexico, is a non-profit organization dedicated to the perpetuation and promotion of the Pueblo Indian Art, Culture, and History. It was established in August, 1976. At present, it is owned and managed by the 19 Indian Pueblos of New Mexico. The Center aims at presenting the accomplishments and history of the Pueblo people, from the Pre-Columbian time until today. This Center attracts more than 200,000 people every year.

The Pueblo Cultural Center houses a 10,000 sq-ft (929 sq-m) museum that features impressive artifacts and authentic history of the long-established Pueblo cultures and their contemporary art. The permanent exhibits at the museum draw attention to the ingenuity and acclimatization that led to the diversity, survival, and achievements of each of the 19 Pueblos. The museum also holds a collection of small, changing exhibits that emphasize on the work of living conventional and modern-day artists.

Besides the on-site Pueblo Museum, the Center is also home to several gift shops, a Children’s Museum, the Pueblo Harvest Café, a smoke shop, and the Institute for Pueblo Indian Studies. The Museum shop specialties include Indian handcrafted items, curio, books, and clothing. The Center also hosts a number of traditional Indian dances and artist demonstrations. These performances are open to the public on every Saturday and Sunday.
