The International UFO Museum & Research Center, a major attraction in Roswell, New Mexico, was established in 1997 in an old downtown movie theater on the Main Street. The Museum features exhibits on the famous Roswell Incident and cover-up. Besides, there are many exhibits on UFO sightings around the world, crop circles, ancient cultures, and Area 51. "The Truth Is Here", is the main motto of the Museum. However, this relates mainly to the crashed aliens.
Most of the exhibits at the Museum are either paper displays hung on pegboard walls or flying saucers made out of hubcaps. The major attraction in the Museum is a prop alien corpse dummy, lying on a hospital gurney, from the 1994 Showtime movie "Roswell: The UFO Cover-up." Another impressive exhibit is the exact replica of the Mayan sarcophagus lid found in Palenque, Mexico, which shows a man blasting off in a spaceship.
The Museum and Research Center also houses a research library that offers ample reading space. In addition, many documentary films are presented in a video room. The popular Area 51 Museum at the Alien Zone & Cosmic Juke Box is also situated just a block away from the UFO Museum. The main highlight here is the "City of the Future,” a miniscule model of a sci-fi cityscape illuminated with black light paint. The Museum has still a long way to go but is certainly worth a visit at least once.
