La Fonda Hotel

restaurant at la fonda hotel

La Fonda Hotel, situated in Santa Fe, New Mexico, is a landmark structure built on the historic Plaza. This splendid hotel is known for its lodging, dining, and entertainment facilities, and is a very popular vacation destination in Santa Fe. It is the “grande dame” of all the hotels in the town and is just a walking distance from galleries, shops, museums, and restaurants. The present La Fonda was built in the year 1922. Initially, it was acquired by the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad but was later leased to Fred Harvey in 1925. Until 1968, the hotel was one of the Harvey Houses, an internationally acclaimed chain of fine hotels. However, since 1968, La Fonda has been locally owned and has retained its architectural authenticity and historic integrity.

La Fonda is appreciated for its inviting, luxurious ambience, award-winning pueblo-style Spanish architecture, and warm hospitality. Besides art and history, the magnificent hotel is also known for its modern technology, and high-speed wireless Internet access throughout the hotel. Other amenities include covered parking, nightly turndown service, multi-lingual concierge service, valet laundry, room service, business center, gift shop, child care services, and the Lobby Shops. In addition, the hotel houses a world-class fitness center and spa with a heated swimming pool, outdoor hot tub, an exercise room, a massage room, and steam room and showers for men and women.

La Fonda hotel has a three diamond rating from AAA for over 10 years. It features 167 guest rooms and suites, including 14 luxury suites on La Terrazza, a rooftop garden. Each room is provided with wireless internet access, luxurious pillow-top beds, voice message service, plush terrycloth bathrobes, cable television, coffee maker, in-closet safe, fireplaces, balconies, hair dryer, iron, and an ironing board. These rooms are beautifully decorated with original New Mexican art and hand-painted wooden furniture. A major attraction at La Fonda is La Plazuela, an elegant courtyard restaurant featuring Latin gourmet cuisine and local Santa Fe favorites as well.

Other attractions include the La Fiesta Lounge and the Bell Tower Bar. The Hotel is just a short distance from the panoramic Sangre de Cristo Mountains, which offer several miles of hiking trails and picnic area. The spectacular Santa Fe Ski Basin is also just a 30 minutes drive from La Fonda. La Fonda is the oldest hotel in the state and is a place well worth visiting.
