The Plains Art Museum, situated in downtown Fargo, North Dakota, is the largest museum of fine arts in the State. It holds a large collection of regional and national exhibits. The permanent collection of the museum comprises of over 3000 works, including traditional folk art, national and regional contemporary art, and traditional American Indian art. The Museum also features art work by a number of famous artists, including James Rosenquist, Andy Warhol, Ellsworth Kelly, Sol Le Witt, and Salvador Dali.

The Museum was established in 1965 in downtown Moorhead, Minnesota and was formerly known as the Red River Arts Center. It was renamed “Plains Art Museum” in 1975. The Museum was relocated to its present-day location, in downtown Fargo, in October of 1997. At present, the Plains Art Museum is housed in a renovated turn-of-the-century International Harvester warehouse. In 2003, accreditation was granted to the museum by the American Association of Museums.
