Recreation State Map General Information Ohio is part of the Great Lakes region in the mid-western part of the USA. Columbus is the state capital and also the largest city. Cleveland, Cincinnati, Toledo and Akron are the other major cities. Ohio is a manufacturing hub with several capital goods factories such as rubber, machinery, steel, tools and cars being situated here. The state of Ohio is bordered by Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Kentucky, Indiana and Michigan. By size it is the 34th largest state and by population the 7th most populous in USA. Several rivers pass through this terrain including the Ohio River, Cuyahoga River, Maumee River, Scioto River, Miami River, Muskingham River and Sandusky River. Ohio possesses a temperate climate with cold winters and mild summers. Winters here are full of recreational opportunities with ice skating, sledging, cross country skiing, snowmobiling, ice fishing and ice boating being a passion with residents and tourists alike. Several miles of breathtaking trails are part of the state with the Buckeye Trail and North Country Scenic Trail being greatly admired. Ohio is the prefect destination for outdoor recreation in all seasons.
