Oklahoma City, the capital of Oklahoma, was founded on April 22, 1889. This city was the site of the 1995 bombing, the most destructive act of domestic terrorism in America prior to the September 11, 2001 attack. At present, Oklahoma City is a major tourist destination, known for its rich history, culture, and heritage. The major tourist attractions in the city include the Donald W. Reynolds Visual Arts Center, home to the Oklahoma City Museum of Art; the Civic Center Music Hall; the Stage Center for the Performing Arts, home to a number of top theater companies in the city; the Ford Center; and the Omniplex Science Museum in the Kirkpatrick Center.

The Oklahoma City University campus features a number of music venues, including the Lyric Theater, the Kirkpatrick Auditorium, the Jewel Box Theater, the Wanda L Bass School of Music and auditorium, and the 488-seat Petree Recital Hall. The Oklahoma City National Memorial, situated to the north of the Oklahoma City’s downtown, is yet another place of tourist interest in the city. The outdoor Symbolic Memorial, the adjacent Memorial Museum, and the National Memorial Institute for the Prevention of Terrorism are the main highlights on the grounds of the National Memorial.

The Crystal Bridge at the Myriad Botanical Gardens, a magnificent urban park, is one of the most prominent landmarks in the downtown area. The only tropical conservatory in the area, Crystal Bridge was designed by I. M. Pei. The park features an amphitheater, known as the Water Stage; and a lake inhabited by large Japanese Koi. The other parks in the city include the Oklahoma City Zoological Park, home to several natural habitats the Frontier City theme Park, and the White Water Bay water park. The city is also known for its outdoor recreational activities. Walking, hiking, and bicycling are some of the popular tourist activities here.
