Oral Roberts University or ORU, a charismatic Christian liberal arts university, is situated in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Founded by evangelist Oral Roberts in 1963, the ORU has a total enrollment of nearly 5, 300 students. The University aims at educating the body, mind, as well as spirit. Therefore, students are required to attend chapel services twice a week and a physical education course every semester. Undergraduate programs in business, modern languages, behavioral sciences, education, chemistry, graphics, mathematical science, theology, music, communication arts, computer science, English, humanities, nursing, physics, and government are offered by the University. Besides, ORU also offers a seminary and a limited graduate education program.

The University Campus is well known for its futuristic look and amazing modernistic architecture. The main entrance of the campus is a divided, landscaped roadway, lined with lighted flags representing over 60 nations. The roadway is popularly known as the ‘Avenue of Flags’. The John D. Messick Learning Resource Center, the 900,000 square foot (80,000 square meters) main academic building of the University, features many gold colored windows, pylon-like columns, and a lozenge-shaped footprint styled after King Solomon’s Temple. Other main buildings on the campus include the Howard Auditorium, a Buckminster Fuller style geodesic, gold dome used for movies, theater productions, seminars; the Christ’s Chapel, a 3, 500 seat building built in a drape-like fashion; the Googie style Prayer Tower, which houses the visitor center; and the Mabee Center, an 11, 000 seat arena used for concerts, church services, basketball games, and satellite television productions.

Another major attraction on the University campus is the Praying Hands, a 60 ft (18.3 m), 30 ton sculpture near the campus entrance. This sculpture is the largest bronze structure in the United States. The University has been accredited by the High Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, as well as by the Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada. The ORU is also a member of The Summit League. The main athletic programs at the University include cross country golf, soccer, basket ball, baseball, volleyball, and tennis.
