Tulsa, the county seat of the Tulsa County, is the second-largest city in the U. S. State of Oklahoma. The city was first inhabited by the Creek Native American tribe in the 1830s. Located on the Arkansas River, at the foothills of the Ozark Mountains, the city of Tulsa often experiences severe weather. The city is considered to be the arts and cultural center of Oklahoma. It is home to two internationally acclaimed museums, the Philbrook Museum and the Thomas Gilcrease Museum. The former is among the top 50 fine art museums in the US and provides a unique combination of gardens, historic homes, and art collections. The latter, on the other hand, holds the world’s most comprehensive art collection of the American West. Other museums in the city include the Sherwin Miller Museum of Jewish Art, the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame, the Tulsa Air and Space Museum, the Greenwood Cultural Center, and the Tulsa Geosciences Center.
The City of Tulsa is also known for its theaters and ballet companies. The main dance, concert, and theater groups in the city include the Tulsa Opera, the Light Opera Oklahoma, the Tulsa Ballet, the Tulsa Signature Symphony, and Theater Tulsa. The performing arts complexes in the city include the Tulsa Performing Arts Center, the Mabee Center, the Tulsa Convention Center, the River Parks Amphitheater, the Tulsa Performing Arts Center for Education, and the Expo Square Pavilion. The Brady Theater, the pride and joy of the downtown Brady Arts District, is one among the city’s five operating arts venue listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Tulsa is also known to have the nation’s largest concentration of art deco architecture. Some of the famous art deco structures in the city include the Mid-Continent Tower, the BOK Center, the Phil tower, the Cityplex Tower, and the Boston Avenue Methodist Church. The historical residential core of the city is in an area known as Midtown. The main tourist attractions in this region include the University of Tulsa, the Philbrook Museum, the Swan Lake Neighborhood, Cherry Street, the upscale shopping districts of Utica Square, and Brook-side. Midtown is also well known for its Woodland Hills Mall, Oral Roberts University, and the Southern Hills Country Club. The City also monitors over 140 parks, including the Tulsa Municipal Rose Garden, the Tulsa Zoo and Living Museum, the Oklahoma Aquarium, Mohawk Park, and the Turkey Mountain Urban Wilderness Area. Tulsa has a lot to offer and is a perfect holiday destination for people of all age groups.
