Woolaroc Ranch

mother goat and kid at woolaroc ranch near bartlesville

Woolaroc Ranch, situated in the rugged Osage Hills of Northeastern Oklahoma, was established by oilman Franks Phillips, in 1925. Woolaroc, with its wildlife preserve, museum, a rugged natural environment, and a rustic lodge, is a unique and diverse experience that can be enjoyed by people of all age groups. The name “Woolaroc” has been derived from three words- the woods, lakes, and rocks, which together describe the panoramic Osage Hills. The Ranch embodies the history, cultural heritage, natural environment, and values that made America great.

The 3, 700 acres (14.98 square-km) Wildlife Preserve is home to several species of exotic and native wildlife, including elk, longhorn cattle, and buffalo. Other animal species in the Preserve include the North European fallow deer, the llamas, ostriches, Japanese Sitka deer, water buffalo, aoudads, pigmy goats, and Sardinian donkeys. The Ranch also houses an outstanding museum with an extensive collection of Native American baskets, blankets, beads, pottery, and cultural art; and Western art and artifacts. Besides, the Museum also holds the finest collections of Colt firearms in the world. Woolaroc also features 2 living history areas and a nature trail, where you can experience the life in a pre-Civil War 1840s mountain man camp, an early-day oil lease, and the natural environment of Woolaroc.

At present, Woolaroc Ranch, Museum, and Wildlife Preserve, an independent and private non-profit facility, is managed by The Frank Phillips Foundation, Inc., which aims at preserving the rich heritage of Woolaroc as an historical and educational attraction. Woolaroc also hosts the Friends of Woolaroc membership program, which is necessary to support special activities, ongoing operations, and educational programs. A 2 mile (3.2 km) drive through the wildlife preserve to the main complex, and a drive back through the Preserve will conclude the Woolaroc visit.
