Columbia River Gorge

The Columbia River Gorge is in the Northwest part of the US. It is a canyon of the Columbia River. It is widespread in 80 miles (129 km) area with a depth of 4265 feet (1300 meters). This canyon cuts through the Cascade Range and forms a boundary between Washington and Oregon. Oregon acts like a connection between the Pacific Ocean and the Columbia River Plateau.
The gorge extends from the convergence of the Deschutes River and Columbia, and reaches to the Portland metropolitan area. This gorge is quite famous as a National Scenic Area and is considered to be a famous entertaining destination.
The major tourist attractions in this area are mountain biking, hiking, windsurfing, boating, wildlife watching, camping, fishing, birding, wildflower viewing, rock climbing, and photography.
All this can be done in the National Scenic Area of Columbia River Gorge.
Extremely attractive waterfalls are found in the Columbia River Gorge. Your visit to this area will remain incomplete without watching these waterfalls. The most popular waterfall here is the ‘Multnomah Fall’, which is the second highest waterfall in US. Although Multnomah Fall is the one that is most attractive, but other falls in the Gorge are breathtaking too.
For more than 31,000 years, it has supported prosperous civilizations. Evidence of the Folsom people was noticed in archaeological digs. They were the people who had crossed the Great Continental Divide from Asia.
Five Mile Rapids area excavations show that humans had occupied this marvelous fishing area for at least 10,000 years. A chain of basalt flows created the Columbia River Plateau that covers 164,000 square kilometers.
The Gorge is accessible from Highway 16 from the side of the Washington.
