Crooked River National Grassland

The Crooked River National Grassland is widespread in 170,000 acres (700 sq. km.) out of which 106,000 acres (430 sq. km.) are owned by government.This National Forest is full of enormous natural resources, scenic magnificence, and tremendous amusement opportunities.
People come and visit Ochoco because of the regal ponderosa pine stands, charming rimrock vantage points, Only one of its kind geologic formations, deep canyons, plentiful sunshine and abundant wildlife.
This national forest is divided in the main dour districts namely Paulina, Big Summit, Prineville and Snow Mountain. The Crooked River National Grassland is also administered by the Ochoco and encompasses about 111,000 acres.
Based on different criteria, the national forest can be divided into ranger districts.First is for recreation activities like Hiking, hunting, horseback riding, camping and rockhounding.Next is climate. With a great elevation range, the climate of the forest tend to change based in the elevation.
The high distance from the ground receives much more rainfall and colder temperatures. Much of the rainfall comes in the month of October to April. Mostly, It comes as snow in the higher altitudes.
When winter comes, the temperature sometimes can go below zero degree, and that makes this forest a damn freezing place.Days in the late summer and spring or early autumn can be much clear, sunny days, and ever warm to hot temperatures when the elevation is not so high.
But most of the time, the temperature tends to be moderate.
All of the Crooked River National Grassland is managed by the Ochoco National Forest. Its headquarters are in Prineville. The Ochoco National Forest exist exactly in the geographic midpoint of Oregon.
US Highway 26 is the major highway that goes through the grassland.
