Hallie Ford Museum of Art

The Hallie Ford Museum of Art (HFMA) was designed to favor the liberal arts core curriculum of Willamette University. Moreover it was constructed to serve as a cultural resource, intellectual by exhibition, collection, preservation and interpretation of great historical events for Salem. Main emphasize was on regional art.
Willamette University was founded by missionaries in 1842 and, is the first university in the West.
After so many years, Willamette University has collected magnificent collection of contemporary regional art and Native American art. It has opened a show to exhibit its ever-growing collection of arts.
The first things that entered in university’s collection were Naïve American Baskets.
They were bestowed to Methodist missionaries by Clatsop in Willamette Valley, Oregon. Later on this collection grew faster with the addition of other baskets.
Over the years, many objects were donated to it to enhance its collection.
Works by Barbizon painters Camille Corot, Carl Hall and Constance Fowler, works by European artists, works by American artists, works by modern and old Oregon artists have added beauty to this place.
In 1990, a big collection of European art was added to the museum, which was donated by Mark Sponenburgh and his wife.
It consisted of nearly 250 historical objects of Asian, European and middle east art.
1992, some professors suggested that they should convert the place into an art museum and showcase the objects as their number was growing day by day.
In 1992, the authorities agreed and this place was converted into an art museum.
Later on, many presentations and cultural events were organized in subsequent years. Today, this museum is very famous for its art objects.
