Hood River

hood river

The Hood River's most recent distinction is the ‘windsurfing capital’ of the world. Earlier, it was known for growing delicious apples, pears, peaches, cherries, and other fruits. It has been continuing to attract tourists for the glimpse of the grand snowcapped crest of Mount Hood. Hood River has turned a destination of preference for wind surfers from all over the world.

The blustery weather and the winds from the direction of the Columbia River Gorge are best throughout the middle of the day, and that creates an ideal environment for riding the waves. One can enjoy the glimpse of "board heads" at play. One can drive to the Columbia Gorge Sail Park to get here. Another useful option is to follow Second Street to the waterfront.

The stunning Mount Hood stunning Railroad provides a trip through the good-looking apple and pear orchards in the area. The circa 1910 railcars are pulled by a diesel locomotive along the route of an old fruit train line through the scenic valley between Mt. Hood and the Columbia River. The seasonal opening of the train is during the Hood River Blossom Festival, towards the end of April.

Many orchards and vineyards wait for the tourists throughout the year at the Hood River. This is a place where people from all over Oregon come to collect fresh apples and pears in the month of fall.

Other fruits are also available throughout the year.
Other produce is available and varies by season. The stunning vineyards are situated on a hillside that overlooks the Hood River Valley. The tasting room consists of classical wines and fruit liquors. A group tour can be arranged also if one wishes. Come to windsurf.
