Multnomah Falls

Multnomah Falls, the most attractive waterfalls, are found on the Oregon side of the historic Columbia River Gorge. They are located between Corbett and Dodson, East of Troutdale. The Columbia River Highway goes along with it. This beautiful fall drops in two main steps. First, it gets divided into an upper fall, which is 542 ft (165 m) in height, and then into a lower fall of 69 ft (21 m).
There is a gradual 9 feet (3 m) drop between these two drops; therefore the maximum height of it can be considered to be around 620 ft (189 m). Multnomah Falls is famous as the second tallest waterfall in the United States, while the first one is the Yosemite Fall.
The main source of water is believed to be the underground springs from Larch Mountain. This water store is augmented by spring runoff.
Visitors can cross above the lower cascade through a foot trail that finally leads to Benson Footbridge.
There is a platform at the top of upper falls, where this trails ends. Entire Columbia Gorge looks magnificent from this site. "Little Multnomah", a cascade that is upstream from the upper fall, not noticeable from ground level, can be very well noticed from this point. As it was after Mr. Simon’s efforts that this bridge was built, it was named after him.
As compared to other falls found in the Gorge, the Multnomah area is very easily reachable via highway I-84, east of Troutdale, Oregon.
The rest of the area and an underground tunnel attracts Interstate passenger to stop and see the beauty of the falls.
