Oregon Shakespeare Festival

The Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF) is a well-known regional repertory theatre in Ashland, Oregon. This theatre was established in the year 1935 and is one of the oldest and the largest professional non-profit theatres in the nation. The OSF is a Tony Award-winning theatre that operates on a budget of more than $22,000,000 every year. It features as many as 780 performances per year and gets an annual attendance of approximately 360,000.
In a season that lasts from February to October, the festival features a total of eleven plays on three stages. Five plays are presented in the Angus Bowmer Theatre, three on the outdoor Elizabethan Stage, and the rest three in the New Theatre. Out of these eleven plays produced every year, at least four to five plays are based on the work by William Shakespeare. Also, at least one play in each season is from playwrights such as Robert Schenkann and Octavio Solis.
Besides, the theatre also presents a number of ancillary activities. It also runs an extensive education program. There is a free outdoor “Green Show” featuring a number of dances and historical Elizabethan music. This show and other community events are presented in “The Bricks”, an open central court.
The OSF, situated adjacent to the Lithia Park, encompasses an area of 4 acres (0.016 square-km). Besides the three theatres, the campus also has the Pioneer, Camps, and Administration buildings, and the well-known Carpenter Hall. The Bill Patton Garden is the venue for informal noon talks by the staff members. The Tudor Gift Shop and the Brass Rubbing Center operated by the Tudor Guild are among other famous buildings in the campus.
The Oregon Shakespeare Festival aims at creating unmarked and audacious interpretations of classic and contemporary plays in repertory. The plays featured here reflect the diversity of the American culture and use Shakespeare as an inspiration. The OSF is a theatre of extraordinary quality that dares to fulfill the artistic dreams.
