Round Up Hall of Fame

native americans at RUHOF

A very interesting place to visit is the Round-up Hall Of Fame. It is a hall of fame situated in Pendleton, Oregon. It was established in the year 1969 when John Mulligan was elected as the president. The first individual show featured here was the ‘Pendleton Round-up’. In fact, it was the first Hall of Fame ever that started in North America by an individual show. This exhibition was housed in the VIP Room in the Pavilion.

The July 4th celebrations in 1909 consisted of horse races by Indians and non Indians, greased pig contests, foot races, Indian feasts, sack races, war dances, and fireworks. It was after these celebrations that that the idea of an annual event to be known as the ‘Pendleton Round-up’ came up. The Le’ter Buck Slogan, symbolic of the Round-up was inspired.

Various fascinating displays of the Pendleton Round-up history, its past presidents, royalty, champions, and the rodeo stock in the Round-up Hall of Fame tell the history of the Pendleton Round-Up, and the people and animals involved. One can enjoy several Round-Up artifacts in the Round-Up Hall of Fame. The admission fee for adults, seniors, and children of age 10 and below is $5, $4, and $2 respectively.

People who have made significant contributions to the historic Pendleton Round-up Rodeo and those who have played an important role or made significant impacts on the past are honored in the Pendleton Round-Up Hall of Fame Museum. The museum is situated in the same complex that is used for the actual rodeo, that is, just south of the Pioneer Park near downtown. The various displays at the museum include dissections of the 100-year history of the rodeo, and a fantastic collection of artifacts and photos of people and animals that have played an important role in making rodeo what it is today
Several generations of people have made the Round-up Hall of Fame what it has been, what it is, and what it continues to be.
