The well known Wallowa County Museum is located in the first bank in Wallowa County built in 1888. It was established in 1976. The main objective of the museum is to safeguard, preserve, and present the Wallowa County History of both, settlers and the Indians. The museum exhibitions also aim at helping the historians, students, teachers, and families in research.

This museum is committed to exhibiting and preserving artifacts pertaining to the Wallowa County's early Nez Perce and Pioneer cultures. This museum houses a big collection of objects from the Wallowa County’s past. These items represent the pioneers, the Nez Perce people, the settlers and their descendants. Thus, these artifacts not only depict the cultural way of living in 1880s but also reflect the later years of development in the Wallowa County.

Tourists from all over the world come to visit the museum. According to an estimate, there are about 9000-10,000 visitors at the museum during the season. Every year, the Wallowa County Museum is open from Memorial Day weekend till the third week-end in September.  It is open on all the seven days of a week. Admission is free for children aged 12 and below. The admission fee for adults is $2.50. Handicapped access is available on request to all the areas of the museum.

However, during the winter, this museum remains closed. Interested people can contact Ann Hayes during the off season to make special requests that can be accommodated by the museum. Picture copying and research can be done throughout the year by request.

A lot of heritage tours and public presentations are conducted by the museum every year. “Buy At Home Campaign” was a locally produced film released in 1937. It urged the Enterprise, Oregon citizens to “Buy At Home” to safeguard the economic health of the community.

The present board of directors include:  Chairman, Caryl Coppin (chairman), Jane Tippet, Shandon Towers, Mildred McAnulty, Bill Fisher, Jack Harmon, Bill Kirby, Elane Dickenson, and Bob Casey.
