Wallowa Mountains

wallowa mountains

Although they are renowned as the "Little Switzerland America" but they are quite similar to California's Sierra Nevada. These are the Wallowa Mountains, the beautiful White Granite Mountains with streams and stunning lakes that form an unforgettable beauty of nature. God must have designed this place with a vision of backpacking.

These mountains reside in Columbia Plateau, northeastern Oregon in the U.S. This entire mountain range is nearly 64 km (39.7 miles) long and lies between the Snake River located in the east and the Blue Mountains located in the west. In other words, they are spread from northwest to southeast (southwestern Wallowa County).

The Eagle Cap Wilderness is the foremost choice of any long-distance hiker. Besides a visit to the Lakes Basin, Glacier Lake areas, and Aneroid Lake, tourists can find their paradise in other beautiful and lonesome trails as well. The down side of the hills is not so good when compared to the beauty on the top or trails. So, only a pessimistic is likely to stay downside.

The area near lakes becomes full of mosquitoes in the month of July. The trails become full of dust because of frequent use of horses and heavy crowd can be noticed in some months of the year. So, it will be wise if one comes here keeping all these points in mind. Besides the places that can be mentioned, there are dozens of places you can see. Almost every place in the region will offer you a great natural view and captivating beauty.

Referred as Eagle Cap Wilderness Area, these mountains consist of a forest called Wallowa-Whitman National Forest. The beauty of these mountains throws hypnotic spells on everybody; no doubt they are called “Switzerland of America”.
