Wild and Scenic Rivers

Seven Federally chosen Wild and Scenic Rivers of Rogue County amount to more than 633 miles (1018 km) of free flowing rivers. These rivers are countrywide acknowledged for the quality of their habitat and beauty. The Congress has made certain rules for these rivers to protect their unusual recreational values.

  • Wild River: This River can be accessed by trail only, and generally, is unpolluted and undeveloped.
  • Scenic River: This River is accessible by a number of roads but is mostly still.
  • Recreational River: This River is much developed down the shoreline and can be accessed easily by roads; trails not necessary.

The-Rogue-Above Prospect section chases a tourist route and a major highway to the Park. Its varied landscape includes deep gorges and unique ecological systems. Wild Rogue Wilderness grants Pass to Gold Beach. It emerges from the Western Cascade Hill of Oregon and winds across orchards throughout the Wild Rogue Canyon Wilderness to the Pacific Ocean. The stream is famous for whitewater rafting, Steelhead fishing, and Salmon.

Another part is Chetco River in southern Oregon. The Elk River is another important river in the southern west Oregon. The most clean water and full excitement comes from the Illinois River.
North Umpqua river provides opportunity for Fly-fishing, scenic driving, whitewater boating. These are leading recreation activities.

Smith River North Fork flows in southwestern Oregon, out of the Kalmiopsis Wilderness. Next, Smith River in California is another important part. This river is one of the jewels of among the Scenic Rivers System.
