Portland Art Museum

portland art museum

The historic and old Portland Art Museum is the oldest museum in the Pacific Northwest region.  It was founded in 1892 and has given citizens of Portland one of the best Art Museums to be found in the country.  It has large collections of arts from many famous painters such as Picasso and Van Gogh to name a few.

In 1998 the museum undertook a major renovation of the “Hoffman Wing” which has made the museum even more of a great place to visit.  The renovation was completed in the year of 2000.  The director of the museum is Brian J. Ferriso.

Famous and expensive collections have found a home in the Portland Art Museum such as the  private collection of renowned New York art critic Clement Greenberg.  With such growing number of new and famous pieces of art each year, the Portland Art Museum can say it holds over 40,000 pieces of historic and great collections.

Museum prices are around $15 for adults.  Discounts for students and children are offered, and children under age 5 are free.  It’s a great place for a family trip to learn the history of fabulous pieces of work and a something new.

If you look at the National Register of Historic Places, you will see the first building that the Portland Art Museum was located on the list.  The building designed by Pietro Belluschi and is known as the “Belluschi Building”.
