downtown mitchell

Mitchell, county seat of Davison County, is situated in South Dakota. It was incorporated in the year 1881 and was named after Alexander Mitchell, President of St. Paul Railroad, and Chicago, Milwaukee. The major tourist attraction in the city is the magnificent Corn Palace. At Present, this beautiful building serves a number of purposes, including trade shows, Shriner’s Circus, Staged entertainment, the local high school prom, and a basketball arena. The themes of the paintings in the Corn Palace are changed on a regular basis. These murals are created using dried corn and grains.

Yet another place of tourist interest in the City is the Enchanted World Doll Museum, which holds a unique collection of more than 4, 000 dolls from all over the world. These dolls are posed in different scenes, which depict their origins. The City of Mitchell is also home to the famous Mitchell Prehistoric Indian Village. This unique archaeological site is enclosed by an Archeodome and is the site of an ancient Native American College. A small museum of Native American art and history is also situated nearby. The City of Mitchell is known for its state champion trees like black berry, Siberian elm, tulip tree, and black locust.
