reunion tower

Reunion Tower, situated in the Reunion District of downtown Dallas, Texas, is one of the most recognizable landmarks in the city. This 560-foot (171-m) tall observation tower is the 15th tallest building in the city and is part of the Hyatt Regency Hotel Complex. Popularly known as “The Big Golf Ball”, “The Dandelion”, “The Circle Tower”, or “The Microphone”, the Reunion Tower was designed by the architectural firm Welton Becket & Associates. The construction of this architectural marvel was completed in 1978 as a part of the urban redevelopment project.

The Tower comprises of three floors with circular floor plans on top of 4 shafts. The central cylindrical shaft supports the stairs and other mechanical equipments. Three rectangular shafts, which rise parallel to the central shaft, contain elevators. The outfacing wall of each shaft is made up of glass panels, thus, offering breathtaking views of the city during the 68-second elevator ride to the top of the Tower. The observation deck is housed on the first floor. The second floor features a revolving restaurant known as Antares while the third level houses a club called The Dome. The open air sphere, which encases the top three floors, is a beautiful geodesic dome constructed with aluminum struts, each with 260 intersections. These struts are covered by aluminum circles with small lights in the center. These bulbs flash at night in numerous computer-generated patterns.
