The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza, situated in downtown Dallas, Texas, appraises the life, times, legacy, and death of the former U.S. President John F. Kennedy within the context of the history of America. The events of his assassination, the historical legacy of the national tragedy, and the findings of the official investigations that followed are well documented in the Museum using historic films, artifacts, interpretive displays, and photographs. The Sixth Floor Museum was inaugurated on the occasion of President’s Day, February 20, 1989. It is housed in the old Texas School Book Depository building, situated at the intersection of Houston and Elm Streets on Dealey Plaza. This site, designated as a National Historic Landmark District, is the same location from which Lee Harvey Oswald shot President Kennedy in 1963. At present, the Museum relies solely on ticket sales and donations.

The permanent exhibition at the Museum deals with the life and death of President Kennedy, with special emphasis on the impact of his death on the world. This historical collection comprises of over 400 photographs, graphs, charts, and many 45-minute documentary films. The artifacts include the FBI model of Dealey Plaza used by the Warren Commission, the 13 original cameras used by eyewitnesses, and personal items from the Kennedy years. Besides, the Museum has also preserved 2 major evidentiary areas associated with the alleged assassination, including the perch of the alleged sniper. The main topics discussed in the Museum include the president's legacy, the early 1960's, the events of November 22-25, l963, world response, major investigations, and the capture of a suspect.

The Museum attracts tens of thousands of visitors every year. The Museum Store offers educational materials as well as unique and distinctive museum quality merchandise. In addition, a number of educational programs are operated by the Museum.
