Sundance Square, situated in downtown Fort Worth, Texas, is a 16-block entertainment and relaxation center for the town. This area has been named after the infamous Sundance Kid in western folklore. It is well known for its history, tradition, and nightlife. It features a number of restaurants, museums, nightclubs, boutiques, art galleries, live theaters, and Cineplex movie theaters. Besides, the Square also has a number of hotels, lofts, condos, bars, shops, buildings with tall windows, and brick-paved sidewalks and streets. The lush courtyards and the red-brick streets enhance the authentic aura of this place. Majority of the buildings in the area have been wonderfully restored to offer a brilliant architectural view of the past.
In the late 1800s, the Sundance Square, formerly known as Hell’s Half Acre, was filled with gambling parlors, dance halls, shooting galleries, and saloons. A major attraction in the area is a beautiful mural on the side of one of the buildings. This painting memorializes the Fort Worth segment of the Chisholm Trail cattle drives in 1867-1875. It covers the southern façade of the Jett Building and was painted by Richard Haas in the mid 1980s. Other attractions in the area include the Land Title Building, Pappagallo Classiques, Barnes & Noble, Leddy's Ranch, Jos. A. Bank Stores, and the Knights of Pythias Hall. Besides, numerous world-class performing arts, festivals, and concerts are held at the Sundance Square throughout the year.
Sundance Square offers a feeling of innovation, fun, and excitement. It is 18 miles (28.9 km) from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and just a few blocks away from the Intermodal Transportation Center, and the Fort Worth Convention Center. This area has a high-energy ambience in its air throughout the day and is certainly not worth missing.
