West End Historic District

The West End Historic District, situated in northwest downtown Dallas, Texas, is one of the better urban areas in the city. It is bordered by Lamar, Wood, Market, Griffin, and Commerce Streets, and is located to the north of the Reunion and Government districts. The Historic District has also been listed on the National Register of Historic Places. At present, the West End attracts more than 7 million visitors every year and has become one of the leading tourist attractions in the City.

The West End Historic District was set up in June, 1976 in order to preserve the history of this significant site in the city. A major attraction in the District is the Dealey Plaza. It is the same location from which Lee Harvey Oswald shot President Kennedy in 1963. The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza is a great place to seek all information about the dramatic event in the American History. Another attraction in the area is the West End Marketplace, a huge mall/entertainment complex. The Historic District is also home to the American Airlines Center, the Dallas Holocaust Museum, the Dallas World Aquarium, House of Blues, the Mambo Café, and the Lily Langtree Coach Company.

The American Airlines Center is home to the Dallas Desperados, Stars, and Mavericks. It offers a premier concert facility. The Dallas Holocaust Museum, on the other hand, features exhibits with the aim of teaching the ethical & moral response to hatred, prejudice, and indifference. The Dallas World Aquarium emphasizes on the Orinoco River life while the House of Blues offer world-class music and food to feed your soul. The American Museum of the Miniature Arts, the Conspiracy Museum, and John Fitzgerald Kennedy Memorial are among other places of tourist interest. The main attractions nearby include the Victoria Park, the Arts City Center, the Main Street District, and the Woodall Rodgers Freeway.
