National Museum of the Pacific War

national museum of the pacific war

The National Museum of the Pacific War, situated in downtown Fredericksburg, Texas, is dedicated solely to illustrating the story of the Pacific Theater battles of World War II. The Museum encompasses an area of nearly 6 acres (0.02 sq-km) and is housed in the historic Nimitz Hotel. It features 34, 000 square feet (3158.6 square meters) of indoor exhibit space and holds a unique display of Japanese and Allied aircraft, guns, tanks, and other artifacts that were popular during the Pacific War Campaigns. The main features of the Museum include the George Bush Gallery, the Plaza of Presidents, Japanese Garden of Peace, the Center for Pacific War Studies, Admiral Nimitz Museum, the Pacific Combat Zone, and the Veterans’ Walk of Honor. The National Museum of the Pacific War, formerly named the Admiral Nimitz Museum, is a first-class experience, which can be enjoyed by people from all backgrounds.

The 23,000 square foot (2100 square meter) George Bush Gallery features extraordinary walk-through dioramas and a number of chronologically-organized exhibits, which offers an opportunity to the visitors to relive the history. The main highlights of the gallery include aircraft and battleship remnants, rare treasures associated with the war, and personal effects from those who made history in the Pacific. Nimitz Museum, on the other hand, features a breathtaking 15 ft (4.6 m) model of Nimitz and various exhibits illustrating the life of Chester Nimitz-from his birth in 1885 to his early childhood, his appointment to the US Naval Academy, his role during the World War II, and the time period until his death in 1966.

The Plaza of Presidents is a stunning outdoor accolade to the 10 American presidents who played integral roles during World War II. The Japanese Garden of Peace is the Memorial Courtyard, which houses plaques honoring the significant contributions of ships, individuals, and units during the war in the Pacific. The path to the Courtyard is paved by the Veterans’ Walk of Honor. The Museum is unique and a great learning experience for people of all age groups.
