Padre Island National Seashore (PAIS), situated on North Padre Island off the coast of South Texas, is a 70-mile (113-km) long National Seashore with a 65.5 miles (105.4 km) of Gulf Beach. The North Padre Island is world’s longest undeveloped stretch of Barrier Island. Nature is very well-preserved at the Gulf Beach. Besides, the Beach also offers great opportunities of primitive camping and is only accessible to four-wheel drive vehicles. The main outdoor recreational activities offered at PAIS include camping, sea turtle releases, beachcombing/shelling, fishing, bicycling, star gazing, four wheel driving, and several interpretive programs.
Padre Island National Seashore encompasses an area of 130,434 acres (1.75 sq. km.), which hosts a variety of pristine beach, dune, and tidal flat environments. PAIS is a unit of the National Park Service and has a lot to offer to people of all age groups. The major attractions nearby include the Bird Island Basin, the North Beach, and the South Beach.
