Ranching Heritage Center

Lubbock, Texas is home to the acclaimed museum of National Ranching Heritage Center that is located on a 30 acre field and hosts over 45 ranch buildings which are both ancient and authentic. Most of the ranch buildings have been repositioned from their original destinations and refurnished in order to accurately display the transformation and evolution of ranching between the period of 1780s and the 1930s. The aim of this heritage center which was set up in 1976 is to preserve the centuries old history of ranching carried out in this region.

Visitors to this destination will be treated to some rare sights such as a centuries old windmill, barns and pens. Also on display are a small one-room school house, a locomotive, a blacksmith shop, homes and depot among others, all unique in architecture and construction.

Several programs that run all year round engage tourists and take them back in time. There are exhibits, educational programs, annual events such as chuck-wagon dinner and fiddle dances, youth classes and festivals that celebrate the glorious history of ranching in the American West. The popular "Candlelight at the Ranch" event is held in December.

The admission to National Ranching Heritage Center is absolutely free all through the year.
