Sabal Palm Audubon Sanctuary

giant swallowtail butterfly at sabal palm audubon sanctuary

South Texas is home to one of the most enchanting natural destinations in the nation - the Sabal Palm Audubon Sanctuary. Located in the area adjoining Rio Grande near Brownsville - Texas, the Sanctuary, a part of the original forest, is 557 acres of sheer natural delight.

For bird lovers The Sabal Palm Audubon Sanctuary is truly a paradise, with several endangered birds calling it their home. Find spectacular butterflies, Green Jays, ocelot, hummingbirds, kingfishers, and other seasonal migrating birds living in their natural settings. Above all the sanctuary is of great significance to the regional eco system as it presents the ideal breeding habitat and food for many scarce wildlife species, especially birds.

Nature lovers will completely soak in the beauty of the majestic Sabal Palm trees, dense shrubs and Texas ebony trees that combine to form thick vegetation providing miles of shade.

Several nature trails that offer a close view of wildlife and camping sites are present. Tours are also arranged for groups, but prior appointment is required. The gift shop in the sanctuary premises has some great memorabilia to cherish forever the beauty of this amazing destination.

The Sabal Palm Audubon Sanctuary is just the right place to bump into natural wonders and admire the beauty of life, unfamiliar to ‘citizens’. No amount of photography can completely satiate your wish to capture the aura of what you see.
