The Park City Museum is a small museum in Park City, Utah. It is housed in the Old Territorial Jail in the city. The main attractions in the museum are the life-size replicas of train cars, which served the area in the past. Besides, there are several mining exhibits and meticulous documentation that make the mining history of the town come alive. Displays that illustrate the town's devastating fire in 1898 are also worth watching.
The popular exhibits of the museum include the Winter Sports History Exhibit, the Silver King Mine Exhibit, the Stagecoach and Tent to Township Exhibit, and the Territorial Jail. These unique exhibits give an opportunity to the visitors to explore an original stagecoach, meet Park City’s Silver Queen, and venture “ underground’’ in the recreated Silver King Mine exhibit. You can collect the self-guided tour brochures at the museum desk and also register for the docent-led tours. The elegant gift shop at the museum offers a number of books on local history, t-shirts, memberships, historic photographs, and limited edition Christmas ornaments.
The Park City Museum is also home to the Park City Historical Society. The Historical Society organizes historian-led daylong hikes around the Wasatch Mountains and the Park City. Most of the tours that begin in town focus on railroad, mining, and the architectural history of the city. The famous Historic Home Tour is sponsored by the Historical Society every June, when several restored 19th century homes are opened to the public.
However, only members are allowed to participate in these tours. Membership can be availed online by paying a fee of merely $25. These tours are self-guided and advance registration is necessary. Besides, some of the best eateries provide several foods and drink receptions in the resort area.
