Museum of Glass

museum of glass

The stunning collection of both traditional and contemporary art works on glass, put up at Museum of Glass, Tacoma is a treat to the eyes.

A brain child of Tacoma’s renowned glass artist Dale Chihuly and friend Phil Phibbs, the Museum of Glass was inaugurated in 2002 nearly 10 years after it was initially conceived and is dedicated to art forms with glass as the medium. Built with an aim to expose the general public to art forms in glass, Museum of Glass has achieved much more by continuously showcasing some amazing art collections all year round and incessantly adding to its excellent collections.

Fun and educative at the same time the museum offers people of all age groups hands on art experience. An Amphitheater that accommodates over 200 visitors is situated in a magnificent 90-foot-tall stainless steel cone that is also home to a hot and a cold glass studio. Visitors can watch the glass blowing action live and see the artists shape out masterpieces right in front of their eyes. Under the Visiting Artist Program, the museum invites both popular and amateur artists to work in the Hot Shop Team to experiment and enhance their work quality.

Outside the museum, an attraction that is absolutely free of cost is the 500-foot-long pedestrian bridge that forms a link between the Museum and downtown Tacoma. A beautiful work of art dedicated to his home town of Tacoma by renowned glass artist Dale Chihuly, this bridge towering seventy feet high showcases some colorful art pieces in glass all along.
