Tacoma Art Museum is an artist’s delight. With an aim to bring art forms closer to one and all and connect people through this medium, the museum was established in the year 1935 as the Tacoma Art Association. Presently located in the beautiful building designed by world famous New Mexican architect, Antoine Predock, Tacoma Art Museum has an extremely attractive demeanor.
Since inception, Tacoma Art Museum has given a great deal of importance to build its exquisite collection of over 3200 noteworthy pieces that are both exclusive and unrivaled. The museum has put a conscious effort to bring in different acclaimed artists regionally and internationally so as make its compilation all-embracing.
The major attraction is Tacoma’s very own glass artist Dale Chihuly, whose collection dating 1977 till date is on permanent display. His much acclaimed series such as Baskets, Sea Forms and Venetians are among the exhibits. Works of other acclaimed artists including, Jean Baptiste, Dale Chihuly, Edgar Degas, Robert Henri, Jacob Lawrence, Robert Rauschenberg, John Singer Sargent and Andrew Wyeth find place here.
The Art Resource Centre of the museum offers readers with an insight into the life and works of various artists and also has an impressive range of books and magazines for both children and adults. Volunteers at the Resource centre are ever ready to offer guidance when needed. The education wing provides an unforgettable hands-on art making, experience, for children and adults.
