Seattle is known as the largest city in the region of Pacific Northwest, United States.
It is situated in the Washington state between Lake Washington and Puget Sound, 95 miles (155 km) south of the United States–Canadian boundary in King County. Seattle was primary established by Europeans during the month of November in 1851. Arthur A. Denny and his team, subsequently famous as the Denny party were mainly responsible for the establishment of the Seattle.

Doc Maynard was the person, who inspired to call the city as Seattle, after the name of Sealth, a chief of local tribes in that area. The city is the center for the Greater Puget Sound region.  Officially, it is known as Emerald City. It was a result of a contest by a an association in 1980s to assign a pleasing nickname for this city. The name signifies the abundant evergreen trees in the area. It is also known as the Queen City, Gateway to Alaska, and Jet City, because of the local power of Boeing.

The city is called as the origin of grunge music, and has a standing for intense coffee consumption. Major coffee companies in Seattle are Starbucks, Tully's and Seattle's Best Coffee. Many successful and independent espresso cafes and roasters can be noticed in the city. Seattle was the place of the assembly of the WTO and the anti-globalization activists in 1999. Central Connecticut State University Researchers has ranked the city as the most cultured and literate city in US in 2005.
