Cheyenne

downtown cheyenne

Cheyenne, the capital city of the State of Wyoming is indeed a charming city. Termed as the "Magic City of the Plains” Cheyenne is the largest city in Wyoming and the hub of economic and political activity in the Northern Plains.

Cheyenne traces its origin to the mid 1860’s when the Union Pacific Rail Road was laid to reach the west coast.  Named for an Indian tribe that lived in the region, the current day Cheyenne soon attracted settlements. Today the population is just above 80,000.
Studded with about 17 city parks, 2 city-operated golf courses, the splendid Cheyenne Botanic Gardens and beautiful lakes, Cheyenne has a natural beauty that is also well conserved. Also the historic Cheyenne Depot Museum captures the history of Cheyenne that is directly linked to the rail road. The city hosts the famous Cheyenne Frontier Days rodeo, which is running since 1897 and is considered to be the largest outdoor rodeo in the world. Another site of tourist interest is the Wyoming State Capitol Building that is also a National Historic landmark.

A great place to be outdoors, Cheyenne offers multitude of outdoor recreational activities. Golf, hunting, skating and camping facilities are abundant and the parks provide an excellent location to relax and picnic. The events calendar is filled with cultural offerings and all year long theater and concert performances are available.
Historic Governor's Mansion, Medicine Bow National Forest, Old West Museum and Vedauwoo Recreation Area are the other places of interest.
