Grand Prismatic Spring

grand prismatic spring

Aptly named the Grand Prismatic Spring, this hot spring is the star attraction of the Midway Geyser Basin, in the Yellowstone National Park. With colors that stun and a size that captivates you, the spring pumps out more than 2000 litres of water every minute and is also the largest spring in the USA. The diameter stretches up to 370 feet and the depth is estimated at 160 feet.

The greatest highlight of the spring is the vibrant prism colors that are formed on its surface. There are a range of colors but deep blue, green, yellow and a vivid orange are clearly distinguishable. It is researched that these unique colors are a result of the water temperature and its effect on micro-bacterial life forms. The interior most part of the spring has a deep blue shade and does not sustain any life forms on account of the high water temperature. Slowly the outer rings turn a tad greenish, which converges with a yellow ring and then followed by bright orange, red and brown. The effect produced by the entire vista is truly magical and it is hard to believe that the colors are a result of continuous bacterial activity.

Artists and photographers never seem to have enough of the view presented by the Grand Prismatic Spring. Do not miss this awe-inspiring natural wonder of the world.
