Named after a local rancher and legislator, Charles A. Guernsey, the peaceful town of Guernsey is part of Platte County, Wyoming. With an estimated population of about 1200 people, Guernsey offers a wealth of activities for visitors.
Tourists inclined towards history are particularly attracted to Guernsey as it is a historically important location and abounds with numerous archaeological sites, some dating back to more than 10,000 years in the past. Register Cliff and the Oregon Trail Ruts are the key attractions from the past.
Situated about 4 miles from Guernsey, Register Cliff is an important landmark. The cliff derives its name as it served as a ‘register’ for people who were crossing the region as a part on the Oregon Trail. Here signatures of over 1000 travelers some of them believed to be inscribed as early as 1840 are found intact, till date. Guernsey is located right on the Oregon Trail and The Oregon Trail Ruts, which is a State of Wyoming Historical Site and an important mark of the momentous trail, is just 3 miles from the town of Guernsey.
Being located on the banks of the North Platte River, water based recreational activities are aplenty. Also, the three major parks on the town map namely West Park, Gordan Davis Park and Larson Park together provide golfing, swimming, boating, picnicking, and campground facilities. Guernsey dam and Lucindy Rollins grave are other places of interest.
Apart from the above, the genuine warmth exuded by the residents of Guernsey makes a trip to this town, truly memorable.
