Laramie

downtown laramie

Nestled on the banks of Laramie River in south-eastern Wyoming, the City of Laramie is the county seat of Albany County. Laramie traces its origin to the establishment of the First Transcontinental Railroad in the 1860’s and presently has a population above 27,000.

Laramie’s unique location of being situated between the high plains of two majestic mountain ranges the Medicine Bow Mountains (Snowy Mountains) and the Laramie Range, bestows it with a cool climate. This high elevation, over 7100 feet above sea level, ensures long winters and reasonably short summers. With snowfall literally being present all year long, skiing and snowmobiling activities are abundant. However the most popular sport of the region is Mountain Biking. With both the mountain ranges providing some exciting rides through the forest terrain, it is indeed a pleasurable experience.

Important landmarks and tourist attractions of Laramie include the University of Wyoming, Fort Sanders, Wyoming Territorial Prison State Park and Laramie Valley that plays host to a range of outdoor activities. Home to several renowned museums such as Geological Museum at the University of Wyoming, Laramie Plains Museum and The Wyoming Children's Museum and Nature Center, Laramie is a historian’s delight. Overall there are 20 locations in Laramie that are added to the National Registrar of Historic places.

Laramie is known for its Historic Downtown dating back to the 1870’s. Shopping here is an absolute pleasure. Even though modernity has crept into the items on display, the surroundings retain the antique touch. Great hotels offering comfortable accommodation and restaurants serving enjoyable cuisine from across the globe turn Laramie into a vacationer’s delight.
