As its name suggests, this geyser is indeed old and faithful (pun intended). Geysers are springs that erupt periodically throwing out hot water and steam and the Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, is home to numerous such eruptions. However the park’s, Old Faithful Geyser situated in the Upper Geyser Basin is an extremely popular destination as it has been around for several years and its eruptions can be predicted with reasonable accuracy.
Named so in the year 1870, Old Faithful Geyser generally has eruptions after an average interval of 80 minutes, but earthquakes have changed that interval to anywhere between 50 – 120 minutes. The eruptions which rise over 100 feet in height and last between 2 to 5 minutes are truly majestic and make for a popular image for photographers.
Today this destination has become famous for the exotic view and also the predictability of the eruption. Hotels and buildings surround the geyser area and there are hordes of visitors eagerly waiting in the boardwalks for the upsurge to soak in the beauty of the water that bursts out. For an aerial view, a hike to the Observation point, east side of Old Faithful is suggested. A much admired view is watching the Old Faithful Geyser reach for the skies on a moonlit night.
At the Old Faithful Geyser, all the enchanting views last for a few minutes but the impact truly stays on forever.
